We spend a lot of time getting assessments just right. From question design to review and testing, the goal is always the same: a fair, accurate exam experience. But we also live in the real world. Questions occasionally misfire. A candidate flags something that doesn’t add up. A pattern in the data raises an eyebrow. Even with the best prep, things don’t always land as planned.
When that happens, you need to spot it quickly and have the tools to investigate and make changes if needed. It’s not just about fixing problems, it’s about strengthening confidence in the process.
That’s why we’ve given the Cirrus Marking Dashboard & Rescoring Panel a proper upgrade. You’ll soon be able to see how learners performed at a glance, jump straight into rescoring when needed and get a much clearer view of how each question landed, all in one place. The new tools will start rolling out for testing around 27 May, with the full release set for 30 June.
For coordinators: spot issues and take action faster
The new Score Distribution tab makes it easier to review performance and take action, bringing together insights and tools that were previously spread across different views.
In the example below, you can see:
- How scores are distributed across the cohort
- Key performance stats, including pass rate, average time and reliability indicators (P, PC, RIt, RIR)
- A direct link to rescoring and question reports, so you can move from overview to action in one click

It’s built on familiar workflows, with more context and fewer steps, so you can spot issues and act on them faster.
For markers: performance insights, simplified
Markers now have access to a new Overview tab, similar in structure to the Coordinator’s Score Distribution tab, but simplified to match their responsibilities.
Depending on your permissions, you can:
- View performance stats like pass rate, score distribution and average time
- Jump to question reports or rescoring, if your role allows it
It’s a focused, role-specific view that gives you the insight you need, without the noise.
Updated every 10 minutes
Score Distribution metrics aren’t static, they update automatically every 10 minutes, so you’re always looking at the latest available data. You’ll also see a timestamp showing when the data was last refreshed, so you know for certain that what you’re reviewing is current and accurate.
A better rescoring experience
Once you’ve identified a potential issue, getting to the right question and taking action is now much faster. The redesigned rescoring page shows a clear overview of question-level performance. You can sort and filter the table to quickly find what you’re looking for, such as low-scoring questions.
Click on a question to open rescoring options straight from the table. You won’t need to navigate away or start over, the whole workflow is built into one view.

Before any changes go live, you’ll get a pop-up summarising the impact of your rescoring. You can confirm or cancel, nothing is final until you say so.

It’s designed to save time, reduce friction and give you more confidence in every rescoring decision.
Designed to support the way you work
These updates don’t change how you mark, they just make it easier to get things done. With better visibility, fewer clicks and everything in context, it’s easier to review performance and keep exams running smoothly. Tools you don’t have access to are now greyed out by default, so you always know what’s available to you. The enhanced marking and rescoring tools start rolling out from 27 May, with full release set for 30 June.
Best practices for using rescoring effectively
- Start with the data: Use the Score Distribution or Overview tab to spot patterns before diving into individual questions.
- Check reliability indicators: Metrics like RIt and RIR help identify questions that aren’t behaving as expected.
- Use rescoring in context: With performance data built into the rescoring view, it’s easier to make informed, evidence-based decisions.
- Be consistent: Use defined internal criteria for when to rescore and how to apply changes to ensure fairness across all candidates.
